On holiday in North Wales, I took the time to visit a number of local waterfalls. This fall is part of a cascade through dense forest. It’s the only time for a long time that I have not been able to hear anything man-made.
To capture this image I used a polarising filter to saturate the depth of colour from the foliage, and to avoid and glare from the water. It also allowed me to drop the shutter speed a little more to really smooth the water (tripod needed…). I used a natural tone HDR for this image, to blend the shadows close in and bright canopy into one image – I could have done the same with graduated filters, but I didn’t have any with me.
This is one of my favourite images from the trip. The forest was dense and stunning, and I feel I captured its essence well in this image.
