For our honeymoon, my wife and I went on a road trip around Iceland, I’ve written quite a lot about it, but I was going back through some of my RAW files and found this:
This significance of this is that while I work as a scientist, my specialism is chemistry and studied chemistry at university for 8 years, so is an immensely important subject to me. The extraordinary thing is not that while in Iceland I found a sticker advertising a chemistry publication of some kind, but rather more where I found it…
In the middle of what I can only describe as a desert that had been exposed by a retreating glacier, there was a large steel girder-type monolith by the side of the road
The chemistry sticker was on one side of this construction, and not even the side visible from the road.
It was, for me at least as a chemist, the most unusual and obscure thing to discover on what was already a tremendously odd thing in the middle of a huge empty open space that we have been driving through for hours.
