The hedges near my childhood home are very old and very wild
I don’t really have a title for this photo, even though it’s one of my favourites.
I lived back with my parents for year, a year or so ago, and took to wandering the country lanes just staring into the hedges. All of the hedges are old, very old, and just look stunning! A beautiful blanket of moss covers most things, with thick brambles and ferns growing in the middle. I thought they looked like a perfect miniature replica of an old forest, and couldn’t resist taking the camera to them.
It was early evening when I went out, I had already seen these fern so I knew where I was heading. I used the fastest available aperture, and live view mode because I was aiming directly at the sun. I want to use the fern to create the sunburst, and I’m very pleased with how it came out. The final detail was added in Lightroom, using a split tone to add just a touch of green to the highlights, to really draw the viewer into the feeling of being stood in some ancient forest, looking up through a dense canopy.
One of my favourite images, purely because it transports me when I look at it.
